FAB & MBBR Media

Overview


DropX FAB (Fixed Aerated Bed) and MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) media are advanced bio-carrier materials designed to enhance biological wastewater treatment. Made from high-quality virgin polymers, these media provide a large protected surface area for microbial growth, increasing treatment efficiency while maintaining compact reactor sizes. DropX media are engineered for durability, self-cleaning operation, and high oxygen transfer, making them ideal for both aerobic and anaerobic systems.


Key Features


DropX FAB and MBBR media feature a unique geometry that ensures optimal contact between microorganisms, water, and oxygen. The structured surface and internal channels provide a stable habitat for biofilm attachment while allowing free movement and efficient mass transfer. Manufactured from UV-stabilized, chemically resistant polyethylene, the media maintain buoyancy and performance over long-term use. Their self-cleaning action prevents clogging and maintains high active surface area utilization. The modular design allows easy retrofitting into existing treatment systems, providing superior nitrification, BOD removal, and overall process stability.


Applications


FAB and MBBR media are used in sewage treatment plants (STPs), effluent treatment plants (ETPs), and industrial biological systems for enhanced BOD, COD, and nitrogen reduction. They are equally suited for upgrades of existing aeration tanks or conversion of conventional systems into MBBR-based reactors. DropX media are used in municipal wastewater, food and beverage, textile, and pharmaceutical industries where compact design, process stability, and energy efficiency are essential.


Specifications


DropX FAB and MBBR media are manufactured from virgin HDPE with density between 0.90 and 0.96 g/cm³, ensuring buoyant and uniform distribution in aeration tanks. Standard geometries offer specific surface areas ranging from 350 to 900 m²/m³ depending on model and configuration. The media are available in multiple shapes — cylindrical, cross-flow, and hexagonal — each designed for optimum biofilm attachment and shear resistance. Typical dimensions range between 10 mm and 25 mm diameter, with operating temperatures up to 80°C. The media are supplied in bulk HDPE bags for easy handling and loading.
