Demineralization Resins

Overview

We offer the complete range of Thermax Tulsion® Demineralization Resins, designed for total dissolved solids (TDS) removal and ionic purification in water treatment systems. These include both cation and anion exchange resins that work in sequence or mixed-bed configuration to achieve deionized, high-purity water. Built on strong acid and strong base functional groups, Tulsion® DM resins deliver reliable ion exchange performance across a broad range of feedwater qualities — from process water and boiler feed to high-purity industrial and pharmaceutical applications.

Key Features

Tulsion® Demineralization Resins are available in strong acid cation (SAC), weak acid cation (WAC), strong base anion (SBA), and weak base anion (WBA) grades. SAC and WAC resins remove cations such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, and iron, while SBA and WBA resins remove anions like chloride, sulfate, nitrate, and silica. The resins exhibit high exchange capacity, excellent mechanical strength, and uniform particle size for low pressure drop and efficient regeneration. Their chemical stability allows consistent performance through multiple cycles of exhaustion and regeneration. Available in both gel and macroporous structures, Tulsion® DM resins are suitable for ambient as well as high-temperature service conditions.

Applications

Demineralization resins are used in industrial and power plant deionization systems, mixed-bed polishing units, and laboratory water purification systems. They are widely used in process industries such as pharmaceuticals, microelectronics, food and beverage, and chemical manufacturing where ultrapure or low-conductivity water is essential. These resins are also used for boiler feed preparation, condensate polishing, and silica removal applications.

Specifications

Tulsion® DM Resins include several popular grades:

  • Strong Acid Cation (SAC): Tulsion® T-42, T-42 Na, T-52, T-60 (sulfonic acid functional group, Na⁺ or H⁺ form).
  • Weak Acid Cation (WAC): Tulsion® C-150, Tulsion® C-160 (carboxylic acid functional group, H⁺ form).
  • Strong Base Anion (SBA): Tulsion® A-23, A-27, A-33, A-36 (Type I and II quaternary ammonium groups, OH⁻ form).
  • Weak Base Anion (WBA): Tulsion® A-2, A-21, A-23 (tertiary amine functional group, free-base form).

Typical total exchange capacities range from 1.7–2.1 meq/mL for cation resins and 1.1–1.3 meq/mL for anion resins. Operating pH ranges from 0 to 14, with maximum service temperature up to 120°C. Moisture content varies between 40–60% depending on grade. Resins are supplied in 25 L or 50 L HDPE bags, ready for installation in DM, MB, or EDI pre-treatment systems.
